I think Impulse Co. originally started on Etsy, and I had seen the big collective swatch photo doing the rounds on Tumblr so many times so I was well aware of them. For some reason I never actually went ahead and bought any, so by the time I decided to I could no longer find their Etsy store, and came to realise they now had their own site.
I decided to buy the lipsticks in the sample size containers ($2.45) rather than buying the full sizes ($6.99) since I had never tried them before. It's nice to have the option, especially with unusual colours because I don't tend to use them very often so I'm much more likely to use up a sample than a full size. I was also really not keen on the packaging for the full size, which I know it's stupid of me to care about that when the lipsticks perform well. All of the shades I bought are Vegan.
I decided to go for the shades Platonic (light pink), Pandora (dark purple), Lobotomy (bluey-green) and Agent X (dark green). I wanted to take advantage of the more unusual of the shades because they're harder to find by other brands. All of the lipsticks I bought are mattes, but are not dry at all.
Applying the lipsticks from the little sample containers is much harder than I had realised! I find a lip brush really does not do the trick, so I decided to dig out the lipstick using a small plastic spatula, which I then used to get the colour on, and then used a lip brush on that to get a better shape. I found Platonic and Lobotomy applied the best, but the two darker shades were very hard to get even. I found with all the colours that they're really not easy to layer. I don't know if that's just because of the complication of applying them from the sample containers, but I am definitely willing to buy the full size lipsticks to see if they perform better.
I really like these lipsticks depite the application problems. I found they looked a lot better in person than in the photos, which make them appear a lot more patchy/uneven.
I definitely think I would repurchase all except Agent X in full size, and that's because it just didn't perform as well as the others and it's not a colour I'd wear often. I can see myself buying more in the future because the colours are so interesting, unique, and affordable.
Katy Perry can pull off any hair colour and Kittenmoustache can pull off any lip shade! :D <3 xx
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you, that's a great compliment! xx
DeleteAh that's a pity Agent X didn't work too well, out of all the shades that would be the one I'd go for the most.
ReplyDeleteBut I do like how you have the option to buy the trial sizes instead of the full tube, it's a good way to find out what you like without the commitment. :)
Juyey xx
It's possible that the full size performs better, but I don't know for sure so if you did go ahead and order it I think you would be taking a risk.
DeleteYes, the samples have given me confidence in the brand, and I actually placed an order for a selection of full sized lipsticks on Friday because of the Black Friday sales, so if you're interested I may do another review post to show how the application of the full size lipsticks compare xx
These look really interesting and lovely! The shades are nice too. I would be frustrated with applying this on the go from the sample pot, but the full size packaging isn't so bad... It does look more like a lip balm though than a lipstick.
ReplyDeleteThink I may invest in these in the future as they look really interesting!

It really is a bit tricky, but definitely useful to be able to buy the samples since I discovered that one of the shades wasn't so great, so I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money on a full size. I bought a bunch of full sizes and a palette of bright lipsticks in their Black Friday sale, so it's likely I'll do a post on those when I get them (:
